HOW TO

How to remove a background

The tool finds the background colour around the edges of your picture and makes every connected pixel that matches it transparent.

  1. 1

    Add your image

Drag a file in or click to browse. Product photos on white, logos, screenshots and scanned signatures all work well.

  2. 2

    Adjust the tolerance

The preview updates as you drag. Raise the tolerance if background survives, lower it if your subject starts vanishing — or click the image to pick a different colour to remove.

  3. 3

    Download the PNG

Save the result as a PNG, which keeps the transparency. Drop it onto any colour or photograph and the background is gone.

USE CASES

When you need a transparent PNG

Anywhere an image has to sit on top of something else.

Product photos

Cut a product out of its white studio background for a listing or catalogue.

Logos

Turn a logo saved on a white square into one that works on any coloured header.

Signatures

Remove the paper behind a scanned signature so it can be placed on a document.

Stickers and icons

Prepare graphics that need to sit cleanly over other artwork.

Presentation images

Drop a cut-out image onto a coloured slide without an ugly white box around it.

Screenshots

Strip a flat background from a UI capture before placing it in a mockup.

TIPS

Getting a clean cut-out

This works on colour, not on recognising subjects — so the background is what matters most.

  • The more even the background, the better the result. A plain white or single-colour backdrop is ideal.
  • Strong contrast between subject and background helps. A white shirt on a white wall will not separate cleanly.
  • Start with a low tolerance and raise it gradually. Going too high starts eating into your subject.
  • Click a background pixel to sample it directly if the automatic corner sampling picks the wrong colour.
  • Shadows and gradients are part of the background but not the same colour, so expect to raise the tolerance or accept some remaining.
  • Always save as PNG. JPG cannot store transparency and will fill the gap back in with white.
